If you have only ever run propeller boats, a jetboat feels wrong for about ten seconds — and then it makes every other boat feel fragile.
How it works
No propeller sticking out. No rudder. The pump sits inside the hull, swallows water through the bottom and throws it out the back — so there is almost nothing left to break.

Why it matters
The pump sits inside the hull, so there is nothing to shear off on a rock or wrap in weed. Shallows, gravel, river mouths — you stop planning routes around your driveline.
A rudder asks the water to push the back of the boat around. A steering nozzle points the entire thrust wherever you aim it, so the boat changes direction far harder and far sooner.
Direct drive between motor and impeller. The thrust arrives at the same moment as the trigger — which is most of the reason it is addictive.
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. The jet goes backwards; the boat goes forwards. That is the whole trick.
